Aethecerus Wesmael, 1845
Aethecerus is a small genus with only two described species in North America. However, the Nearctic species lack the large excavated area posterior to the mandibles which characterizes the genus and are unrelated to the Palearctic type species. They should be transferred to the more closely related genus Tychuerus.
As the choropleth below shows, our knowledge of the diversity and distribution of the North American species placed in Aethecerus is extremely fragmentary.

- scutellum flat
- gastrocoelus and thyridium wide (wider than interthyridial width )
- hind coxa of female without coxal tooth
- female metasomal apex oxypygous
