Coelichneumonops Heinrich
Coelichneumonops is a small genus restricted to high elevation or high latitude boreal regions. As the name suggests, Coelichneumonops generally resembles Coelichneumon, especially in the posteriorly sloping propodeum, except that in Coelichneumonops the propodeum is longer and more gently sloping than Coelichneumon. Also, the gastrocoeli in Coelichneumonops are either shallower, narrower or both compared to Coelichneumon. The thyridia is similarly weaker as well.
It is possible that Coelichneumonops is only a slightly derived lineage within Coelichneumon.
Diagnosis
- coloration primarily black or metallic blue
- propodeum long and sloping (without distinct dorsal and posterior faces) and with an elongated second lateral area
- gastrocoeli either shallower, narrower or both compared to Coelichneumon
- female metasomal apex oxypygous
