Eparces Foerster, 1869
Eparces is a small phaeogenin genus with only three described species. In North America it is represented by Eparces quadriceps and one undescribed species which occurs in Florida and the barrier islands off the coast of Georgia. Eparces closely resemble Centeterus and are essentially only differentiated from the latter genus by the elongated body.
Biology
The host(s) of Eparces are entirely unknown but may be microleps feeding on sedges or grasses in marshy areas. Females are known to overwinter as adults.
Diagnosis
- body elongated (elgonated pronotum particularly noticeable)
- overall sculpture granulate (no smooth areas as in Centeterus or Colpognathus)
- female without hind coxal tooth
- gastrocoelus and thyridium absent
