Homotherus Förster, 1869
Homotherus is a small genus (8 Nearctic species) which is nearly identical to Cratichneumon. The primary difference is that the thyridia in Homotherus are wider than the interthyridial width, while in Cratichneumon they are narrower. Aoplus is superficially similar due to the granulate postpetiole and the wide thyridium. Homotherus can easily be distinguished, however, by the glossy mesonotum and the nearly parallel-sided (tapering ventrally in Aoplus) head.
Diagnosis
- postpetiole granulate
- thyridia wide (wider than interthyridial width)
- anterior margin of propodeum without median tubercle
- female metasomal apex oxypygous
- mesonotum polished
