Limerodops Heinrich, 1949
Limerodops is a small genus of dark colored, elongated wasps in the Amblyteles genus-group. They are most similar to Diphyus and Ectopimorpha. They can be distinguished by the laterally compressed metasomal apex in females (not significantly laterally compressed in Diphyus), enlarged gonoforceps in males (not enlarged in Diphyus or Limerodops), ovipositor sheaths not projecting past metasomal apex (slightly projecting in Ectopimorpha), and the more strongly striate postpetiole and more strongly sculptured 2nd metasomal tergite than in Ectopimorpha. Practically though, the two Limerodops species in North America can largely be identified by their distinctive coloration.
There probably no undescribed North American species.
Diagnosis
- female metasoma elongated, amblypygous and with apex laterally compressed
- postpetiole weakly to strongly longitudinally striate
- gastrocoeli narrow and linear and with very small, scar-like thyridia if not entirely obsolete
- males with elongated tyloids beginning on flagellomere 2
