Neamblymorpha Heinrich, 1961
Neamblymorpha milva is a monotypic genus with the single species, Neamblymorpha milva, restricted to the northeastern U.S. and Canada. It can be recognized by its coloration and habitus though care should be taken not to confuse it Opheltes glaucopterus which is in an entirely different subfamily (Ctenopelmatinae).
Neamblymorpha is part of the Amblyteles genus-group and has amblypygous females but is somewhat unusual in that it has a granulate postpetiole instead of being longitudinally striate. Neamblymorpha does differ in several significant characters though and could possibly be unrelated to Amblyteles. Strucutrally, Neamblymorpha
Biology
Despite being quite common and easily recognized, any hosts of Neamblymorpha milva are entirely unknown. Due to the amblypygous metasomal apex, Neamblymorpha milva females undoubtedly attack larval stages.
Diagnosis
- body elongated
- female metasomal apex amblypygous
- scutellum strongly elevated above postscutellum
- acute, slightly projecting propodeal apophyses
