Orgichneumon Heinrich, 1961
Orgnichneumon is a small Holoarctic genus with only a single species, Orgichneumon calcatorius, in the Nearctic (though it also occurs in the Palearctic). Orgichneumon generally resembles Coelichneumon in the general habitus, color, and especially the deeply impressed gastrocoeli and well-developed thyridia. Despite the similarity, it isn't thought to be closely related to Coelichneumon and differs from it by the convex ventral margin of the clypeus and the crescent-shaped areola. Orgichneumon also does not have the sloping propodeum that characterizes Coelichneumon, though the difference between the two states can be difficult to differentiate. The specific color pattern of Orgichneumon also distinguishes it from similarly colored Coelichneumon species.
The range of O. calcatorius in North America extends across the eastern U.S. and Canada and west to British Columbia. There are no undescribed Nearctic species.
