Platylabops Heinrich, 1950
Platylabops is a moderate-sized genus that is fairly rare and difficult to recognize. Heinrich (1961) compared Platylabops with Aoplus, but Platylabops species more closely resemble smaller Cratichneumon species. They can be distinguished from both by the generally more lithe habitus and especially the slightly to moderately convex clypeus.
In addition to the seven described species, there may be as many as 15 undescribed Platylabops species in North America.
Diagnosis
- clypeus slightly to moderately convex
- anterior margin of propodeum without median tubercle
- postpetiole varying from smooth to granulate with shallow, indistinct punctation to irregularly rugulose
- gastrocoeli wide but shallow
- well-developed thyridia that are sometimes slightly oblique but not nearly as much as in Aoplus
- female metasomal apex varying from moderately oxypygous to semiamblypygous
