Rictichneumon Heinrich, 1961
Rictichneumon is a small and rarely collected genus similar to Barichneumon. It shares with the latter genus all of the typical diagnostic characters except that the clypeus is extremely wide and short and the mandible is long, with the dorsal tooth considerably longer than the ventral tooth.
There are four described species in the Nearctic and possibly one undescribed species in southern Utah and Arizona.
Diagnosis
- clypeus extremely short and wide
- anterior margin of propodeum with median tubercle
- postpetiole of 1st metasomal segment varying from densely, coarsely punctate (as in Barichneumon) to smooth, polished and only sparsely punctate)
- thyridia and gastrocoeli narrow
- female metasomal apex oxypygous
